How to win against peter pan

I’m writing this blog post mainly to get to it in the future. When I got questioned about my successes it’s very hard to me to think of any, but that’s hardly not the case, there are successful stories in my life and this is one of the first.

How it started

I’ve spent 1 more year than the expected 3 to finish university, really 1 year of grief that fortunately ended with me obtaining a bachelor degree in Industrial Chemistry.

While I love chemistry I really had no idea what I would do with it, I couldn’t find anyone or anything that could explain to me how was the job of a Chemist, from an external point of view it seems very exciting, but in reality to me it really wasn’t, at least what I’ve seen.

My fault for not looking thoroughly? Sure, but the nonsense of certain exams, passionless and careless of both classmates and professors really did not help me.

Certainly one reason for my disappointment is that I had so many expectations from university, I was really excited to study along other people that have chose the same field as me, I really wanted to live the more formal environment of university, have freedom to organise my time and study deeply what I felt like was “potions and magic”.

There were none of that, not even remotely, but this is more about how the academic and school system here in Italy are bad, so it’s another discussion. What I really want to say with this introduction is that what actually college gave me was so much confusion, disappointment and one big question: What I want to do in my life, who I want to become?

If you are nothing, you are potentially everything

During the last months of university I was hanging out a lot with my friends and more or less everyone had this same confusing question, what I want to do for the rest of my life?
